Paris Transports

French public transport is an extensive and diverse network, providing citizens and visitors with a variety of options for traveling efficiently through the country's cities and regions. These transport systems play a crucial role in the daily mobility of millions of French people and soon in that of all tourists for the Olympic Games.

Between buses, trams, subways and RERs, you can quickly get lost or not understand how they work and their prices.

The buses

The operation of buses in France, as in many other countries, is based on a system of regular lines and stops, aimed at ensuring the mobility of citizens within cities and between regions. Buses operate according to regular timetables which are displayed at bus stops. In many cities, bus networks also offer nighttime and weekend services, tailored to the needs of riders outside peak hours. Increasingly, bus networks are adopting green initiatives by introducing electric or hybrid buses to reduce their environmental impact.

The tramways

The operation of the tram is based on a network of lines which use rails generally installed at ground level and unlike the metro, on the surface, along which trams run to transport passengers. Like buses, trams stop at designated locations called tram stations.

The subways

The metro is a fundamental element in Parisian transport life. This underground network, with a train every 3 to 5 minutes, is the most efficient tool of transport in the capital. It avoids traffic jam areas and serves the busiest tourist areas.Subways are called by numbers 1 to 15.

The RER

The RER is made up of five main lines (A, B, C, D, and E) which radiate from Paris to the surrounding suburbs. Each line is often subdivided into branches which serve different outlying destinations. They run frequently throughout the day, with a faster pace during morning and evening rush hours. the RER offers direct connections between the different suburbs without requiring a connection in Paris. Which sometimes makes it faster.

RER

How do they work?

The pricing system can be complex due to the diversity of packages and options available.Prices and policies are subject to change, so it is recommended to check the most recent information with the relevant authorities.

Single tickets: Occasional travelers can purchase single tickets. The cost of the ticket depends on the number of zones crossed. These tickets can be purchased directly from the driver on buses, at tram stations or train stations via ticket offices or automatic terminals. The cheapest ticket is €2.10 for a ticket+.

The Ticket t+ allows subways-subways, RER-RER and subways-RER connections in Paris for 1h30 from validation of entry to the network. It is not valid on trains or RERs outside Paris. You cannot take the same line twice with the same tickets.

Subscriptions: There are a variety of monthly and annual subscriptions that offer discounted rates for frequent travelers. These subscriptions can cover different modes of transport and different fare zones. They are between €30 (for the week) and €85 (for the month).
